Meet the Secretariat
Yvette Shu
Yvette is a senior majoring in Political Science and International Studies on the pre-med track (“cuz why not?“). Hailing from the quiet suburbs of Los Angeles, her only high school exposure to MUN was through warnings from traumatized debate kids. She has previously served as the USG of Crisis at HOPMUNC II, Chief of Staff at HOPMUNC III, and has spun around the circuit with Hopkins’ travel team. Outside of MUN, Yvette likes to dig into her interdisciplinary (read: indecisive) nature, conducting archival sociology research and volunteering at the Hopkins hospital. She also likes getting into verbal debates on topics she knows absolutely nothing about, going on trips (read: skipping class) with her friends, and squealing over the very pretty portraits she takes of her friends. Rishi Damarla
Director-General
Rishi is a senior Mol/Cell major hailing from the Canadian city of Windsor, where you travel north to cross the border into Detroit. In addition to HopMUNC, Rishi competes on the collegiate circuit with Hopkins’ travel team – HopMUN. While not competing on the circuit, Rishi works as a pro bono consultant for Hopkins’ SCNO (Student Consultants for Nonprofits) chapter and serves as a board member for the South Asian student society at Hopkins. In his free time, Rishi enjoys watching his Toronto Maple Leafs suffer yet another catastrophic playoff collapse, and he loves taking a stroll up to Hampden for a quick bite. Sophia Mills
Director of Marketing and Communications
Sophia is a sophomore at Johns Hopkins from sunny Santa Barbara, California. She majors in Political Science and History with a minor in Psychology. Sophia loves being involved in HopMUNC because she enjoys running around capturing all the memories everyone is creating. Outside of marketing for HopMUNC, Sophia spends her time searching for good matcha, studying with friends, or trying to learn to cook (it’s not going too well). Jonathan Zhang
Director of Finance and Registration
Jonathan is a fourth-year student coming from the great Keystone state, Pennsylvania. He majors in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Math. Jonathan is involved with MUN because he enjoys learning history and following politics. Outside of HopMUNC, Jonathan is a member on the Hopkins MUN travel team. Besides MUN, he does research on machine learning and statistical methods. He also volunteers with a student organization called Parkinson's Pals. Jonathan enjoys camping, playing ping pong (please ask to 1v1 him), and spending an unhealthy amount of time playing modded Minecraft. Romy Detering
USG of General Assembly and Specialized Committees
Romy is a junior majoring in International Studies and German and minoring in Economics. She is the Vice President of Hopkins’ MUN travel team and has chaired General Assembly committees at HopMUNC for the past two years. Because of her love for GA, she is so excited to now serve as HopMUNC’s USG of Assemblies! Back home in Queens (NYC’s best borough) you can find her rating the best ramen restaurants on Beli and speedwalking through art museums. Ziyan Liu
Ziyan Liu is a junior at Johns Hopkins University, double majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Psychology as a premed. Since accidentally stumbling upon a Model UN Club Meeting in 7th grade, she has been heavily involved with Model UN, both as a delegate on the circuit and as an organizer for conferences. Ziyan is also heavily engrossed in stem cell research and spends much of her free time in the lab taking care of her IPS cells and mice (her babies, as she calls them). When not in lab or studying, she enjoys reading, writing, scrolling through TikTok, or getting food with her friends.
